CTD has a specially designed large training ground that can realistically simulate real life site conditions. Additionally, our trainers have years of real world experience in the construction, civil engineering, industrial and quarry industry. We stand out from the crowd with our impressive fleet of modern plant machinery. All this helps to ensure that your plant training is both practical and effective.
We offer training and assessment in a wide range of construction plant, and we are a fully accredited test centre for CPCS, NPORS and NVQ assessment, as well as offering our own in-house qualifications. We are also a fully approved CITB ATO (approved training organisation) which means that for companies registered with CITB, our training qualifies for all grant payments where they are payable by CITB and, in most cases, we will automatically claim these on your behalf.
The amount of training can vary dramatically depending on the amount of experience and ability of each candidate. However, we do offer a completely free pre–assessment service, which helps us to give guidance on what training is needed and therefore how much it will cost before you commit to any training itself.
Below is a selection of the most popular plant categories requested. However, this list is not exhaustive and we offer many more options, so please get in touch if you can’t see what you want.

NPORS Plant Training & Testing
We offer a wide range of NPORS categories for most machines.
NPORS offers an alternative UK accredited card scheme. The NPORS training and testing can only be offered by NPORS approved training providers. Training duration varies depending on whether the operator is a novice operator or experienced operator. Training and testing under this scheme can be provided at our Practical Training Ground or on site.
The test includes a written theory and a separate practical test. Both elements must be passed to gain a card.
Cards are valid for 2, 3 or 5 years. NPORS offers a traditional card scheme and the CSCS NPORS card scheme. The latter requires that an NVQ be obtained after two years to renew. See the NPORS website for more details

NVQs in Plant Operations
For both CPCS and NPORS CSCS Card Schemes, when the initial 2 year trained operator card expires, a VQ (Vocational Qualification) must be achieved to upgrade to a competent operator card.
With a minimum of 6 months experience, candidates can register to complete their VQ. This involves preparing a written portfolio of evidence to prove competence on the machine. The process involves an induction, written witness testimony from an employer and an assessor completing formal observations of the candidate whilst working on site.
We offer NOCN CSkills Awards Level 2 NVQ in Plant Operations (Construction) in all the plant categories that we test on. Once achieved, this is a lifetime qualification and does not need to be retaken.

In House Plant Training & Testing
We offer our own In-House training and assessments for most plant categories. This is backed by Construction Training & Development Ltd.
Training and assessment is provided at our Practical Training Ground or, if appropriate, at Client’s site. The duration of the training depends upon the experience and ability of the candidate. It is undertaken to stringent standards and fully meets the requirements of the Health & Safety Executive, offering proof of competence for successful candidates. The testing involves both a theory and practical element, and both must be passed to obtain a certificate and card, which are valid for 5 years.
